The Full-Featured RGB LightCrafter 6500 system combines a high-resolution, high-quality project system based on TI’s DLP LightCrafter 6500 with a high power, RGB LED illumination module, a sophisticated cooling system, and Optecks’ Light Animator software to provide a versatile, feature rich projection system suitable for use in just about any application. The high definition optical engine specially designed for the DLP6500FYE DMD to make the full functionality of the DMD accessible to your application by eliminating diffraction, uneven illumination and other effects that reduce the quality of a projected image. All optical components have high quality anti-reflection (AR) coating to minimize stray reflections and maximizing optical throughput. The optical illumination path remains physically separate from the optical projection path, eliminating stray light and crosstalk between the paths and improving image contrast. A sophisticated cooling system utilizes heat pipes to efficiently direct excess heat to a fan-cooled heat sink, allowing the system to produce image of up to 1350 lm brightness without adversely affecting the system’s performance. The system comes packaged with the TI GUI for the DLP6500 and Optecks’ Light Animator software, the combination of which provides a rich range of features for precision control of the DMD down to the pixel level through a user- friendly, intuitive user interface. As a result, the Full-Featured RGB LightCrafter 6500 will enhance the performance and capability of any application in which you choose to incorporate it.

Summary of Features:

· High definition optics – provides the highest image quality available

· Highly Uniform Images (up to 90%)

o if all the DMD pixels are set to the same state, every pixel in the projected image will have nearly the same intensity

o important for 3D printing and screen imaging, where every pixel within a layer must have the same level and depth of curing to produce mechanically sound objects (printing) or high quality print screens.

· Separate illumination and projection path

o reduces background light, produces high contrast images

· Light from off pixels contained by an internal chamber

o reduces background light (no leakage) – important for 3D printers and curing of emulsions (for example, producing stencils for print screening) to prevent the creation of unwanted pieces or transferred images

· Anti-reflection coating on all optics to improve optical throughput (minimal power loss)

· System designed explicitly for the aspect ratio and illumination requirements of the DLP65000 FYE DMD from TI

o reduces losses due to mismatches between the shape of the illuminating beam and the shape of the DMD (no overfill)

o improves uniformity and minimizes image distortions

· LED illumination module capable of producing up to 1350 lm brightness, all LEDs onLED driver board controllable through DLP software and user programming

· Heat pipe cooling system eliminates degradation of LED and overall system performance, allowing for stable operation over extended periods of use

· Light Animator software provides simple yet sophisticated control of system operation down to the pixel level.

  • Summary

The DLP® LightCrafterTM 6500 Evaluation Module provides high-performance and flexible light steering functionality for developing competitive DLP-based systems and applications. The Module includes a DLP6500FYE DMD, a DLPC900 digital controller, DMD controller board, DMD remote board, and a flex cable. The DLP6500FYE DMD and the accompanying DLPC900 DMD digital controller allow the generation of high resolution images at frame rates up to 9,532 Hz. The system can generate true HD (1920 x 1080) images or can allow the user to flexibly program and sequence over 2 million micromirrors through an intuitive graphical user interface. The system also provides configurable input and output trigger signaling for coordinating DMD operation with peripheral devices such as cameras and sensor that simplifies integration of the system within a larger, complex environment. The Evaluation Module requires a power supply available through Digi-Key (part number DPS53) and can be combined with modules from Optecks (Ray65S) to facilitate application development. A firmware and software bundle can be downloaded from the Texas Instruments website to provide advanced control options for the Evaluation Module.  The bundle includes the DLPC900REF-GUI for communicating with the DLPC900 controller, the DLPC900REF-JTAG for loading and installing configuration firmware to the controller without USB connectivity, and the DLP6500-C900REF-EDID configuration script for updating the DisplayPort EDID on the Module.
